Jonathan did not starve EFCC of funds - EFCC

Press statement from the EFCC denying that GEJ starved the commission of funds...

The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been drawn to a report in The Sun newspaper of Tuesday, May 26, 2015, entitled, Jonathan Starved EFCC of Funds- Lamorde, in which the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mr.

Ibrahim Lamorde was quoted as indicting the out-going Jonathan administration of poor performance.

The Commission takes exception to this report which is pure fabrication by the author for reason best known to him.

In the first place, Lamorde who is currently out of the country did not speak with the media and could not have made the comments attributed to him by The Sun newspapers.

The occasion that provided the basis for the false report by The Sun was a media briefing by Mr.

Wilson Uwujaren, spokesperson of the EFCC, who addressed more than 40 journalists from over 30 media organizations at the Commission’s monthly media briefing in Abuja on May 25, 2015.

At no time during the event did Uwujaren comment on the performance or lack of it, by the Jonathan administration let alone accusing it of poor performance or starving the Commission of funds.

He was only asked a question on the Commission’s view on the focus which the in-coming Buhari administration places on the fight against corruption, to which he responded that the Commission, like most Nigerians who are bothered about the problem of corruption, welcomes the focus which he believes will further empower the EFCC in the pursuit of its mandate of fighting economic crimes and corruption.

It is a great disservice to society when journalists fabricates and twist issues to serve motives that are not altruistic.

APC denies Bukola Saraki's tweet, says they never zoned Senate Presidency to North Central

It appears APC is having a silent battle over who becomes the next senate President. Two hours ago, Senator Bukola Saraki who is gunning for the seat of the Senate president, tweeted that the party had reaffirmed its position to zone the seat of the Senate Presidency to the North Central.

A few minutes ago, his claim was refuted by a statement released by the party's National Secretary Mai Mala Buni, which was shared on the Facebook wall of Kaduna governor-elect, Nasir El Rufai.

Recall that the National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu had told press men last week that the party will not be zoning the position of the Senate Presidency and that they will not compromise merit during the process for the emergency of a Senate President.

Nigerian students warn SA President Jacob Zuma to stay away from Nigeria

Nigerian students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students has warned South African President, Jacob Zuma, not to come to Nigeria for the inauguration of President-elect Buhari following what they described as his poor handling of the xenophobic attacks on some Africans including Nigerians in his country in April.

According to the student body, the failure of the South African President to apologize to Nigerians after the attacks is distasteful.

The students expressed their anger in a statement signed by its President, Tijani Usman.

The statement in part reads

“We wish to advise the South African President (Jacob Zuma) to rather stay at home and address burning issues, rather than embarking on a visit that is the least desirable.

The South African President’s failure to apologise to Nigeria for the losses the country and our citizens incurred during the xenophobic attacks on foreigners leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

There is therefore, no point felicitating with a people who clearly do not matter much to you.

President Zuma’s visit will only amount to pretence.”

Pope Francis says he hasnt watched TV since 1990

The leader of the Roman Catholic Church, who has made waves of connections reaching out to disaffected Catholics and insisting on making the poor a top priority, hasn't watched TV since July 15, 1990, he revealed in an interview published in the Argentinian newspaper La Voz del Pueblo.

The pontiff did not reveal why he gave up watching TV, except to say he decided it wasn't for him, before promising the Virgin Mary he wouldn't watch again.

That promise has kept him from watching his favorite soccer team, Buenos Aires-based San Lorenzo, but he told the paper a member of his Swiss Guard tells him the scores and keeps him up to date on the standings.

Pope Francis said he really misses the tranquility of just walking the streets.

The Pope concluded that he would like to be remembered as a "good guy" who tried to do good".

NUPENG- Fuel scarcity will continue to be part of Nigeria’s socio-economic problem

National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG National President, Mr.

Igwe Achese, at a briefing in Lagos, yesterday said fuel scarcity will continue to be part of Nigeria’s socio- economic problems if certain things are not fixed like if the country’s refineries remain grounded, importation of petroleum products continues, subsidy persists, deregulation ignored and depot not rehabilitated.

Achese in his speech blamed the current scarcity of fuel on Lagos State government, who he said gave tanker drivers 24 hours, instead of the two weeks they asked for, to leave Oshodin-Apapa Expressway. He said:

“We are not on strike.

It was just a withdrawal of services.

I directed that the trucks stay away to avoid violence.

“Even when the tankers were out of the roads, trailers took over which means it is not our problem.

“We work and pay our taxes in Lagos.

It is unfortunate that they do not consider it good enough to create a corridor for us just as they did for Bus Rapid Transport, BRT.

“As long as government refuses to do the needful, fuel scarcity will continue to be part of this country.

“To stop it, our refineries must be put in order, railways working, the downstream sector deregulated, subsidy removed and depot rehabilitated.”

The ceremony was about to start in Asheville, N.C., when Caleb went to the cabin where Maggie was preparing for the wedding ceremony.

Caleb prayed for the couple's marriage, asking that their union be strong enough to serve as an example for young couples, as Maggie held back tears.

"It broke me down," Maggie said, "to know that we felt the same way about God.

It just made me happy."

The incredible moment was captured by wedding photographer Dwayne Schmidt, who later uploaded it to his Facebook page where it received an overwhelming positive response.

"Beautiful picture. It brought tears to my eyes.

Soldiers take over Capital Oil, load drums with fuel

Officials of the Nigerian Army on Monday took over the Ojodu Berger outlet of Capital Oil, buying petroleum products in drums, after scaring away thousands of consumers.

The armed personnel came in the guise of maintaining peace and order, but they soon abandoned their primary responsibility for fuel racket.

They shoved, maltreated and sent away those who were on queue to be attended to, thereby gaining access to have their drums loaded with fuel.

As of press time, the unregistered white Isuzu truck they use for the ‘deal’ had visited the filling station for the fourth time.

The fourth truck was being loaded as of 8:50pm.

The vehicle, on each visit, left with at least 14 drums and dozens of gallons filled with fuel.

The helpless consumers, some of who slept at the filling station, suspected the soldiers were feeding the growing Lagos black market with the product.

The military officials who were fully dressed had taken over the only two pumps that dispensed the Premium Motor Spirit.

Those who protested the act were beaten and given scares on their bodies.

Meanwhile, consumers, who had spent the entire Monday at the filling station without getting the product to buy, had described the announcement by Ifeanyi Uba as a publicity stunt.

By 9pm on Monday, not more than a hundred cars left the station with fuel.

Besides the military, officials of the Nigeria Police Force and black market dealers took over the show while thousands of motorists who had crowded the place since 5am were abandoned.

Striking Anambra judiciary workers lock out tribunal judges

Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Anambra State chapter, on Monday resumed its strike. Before 8am, officials of the union had barricaded the entrance to the state judiciary complex in Awka, the state capital, and locked out users of the premises.

Among those locked out were judges of the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal holding their sittings at the complex.

Litigants and lawyers were seen outside the court compound discussing the development.

The judiciary workers in the state suspended their strike in March after an agreement with the state government to pay them their demands accordingly.

But the workers, in a communique, said government had reneged on the agreement it had with the union and that they had no option than to embark on strike again.

A lawyer, Okili Akirika, who spoke with our corespondent at the judiciary complex on Monday, condemned government’s attitude to the agreement it had with the workers.

He said, “Every responsible government is under legal and moral duty to make sure that legitimate agreements are honoured and kept. “Now that JUSUN is being compelled by circumstances beyond its control to resort to resumption of the strike because government failed, refused or neglected to comply with its own side of the agreement, that shows irresponsibility on the part of government.

“Anambra state government should rise up to its social and legal obligations.

It becomes more worrisome when it is realised that it is even a judiciary pronouncement on the autonomy or independence of the judiciary that has led to this strike.

“Why can’t a court action, court ruling or judgment be obeyed and respected?”

I’ve nothing to hide, my records are intact – Aliyu

Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, on Monday said that he is ready for probe by the incoming administration in the state.

Aliyu said his records since 2007 to date are intact and are available for anybody, who is interested in going through them.

He spoke in Minna, the state capital, during the inauguration of the new legislative quarters at Three Arms Zone, Eastern bye-pass, Minna.

The governor said, “I have advised all my commissioners to keep all their flimsy notes and ensure that the records are handy.

In case they are asked any question by the incoming administration, they should be ready to answer.

“For me, I have all my records and I am prepared to answer any question.

I said even in my dream, if you ask me the right questions, I will give you the right answers.

Osinbajo misrepresented facts on debt profile – PDP

MAY 25, 2015 : JOHN ALECHENU, ABUJA Leave a Comment The Peoples Democratic Party on Monday said Vice President-elect, Prof.

Yemi Osinbajo, misrepresented facts on the state of the nation’s economy.

The party specifically faulted Osinbajo’s claims on the correct status of the nation’s government debt stock.

It alleged that the misinterpretation was part of a ploy by the incoming All Progressives Congress administration to discredit the PDP.

This was contained in a statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh.

Metuh criticised the Vice President-elect for failing to be bold and honest enough to also inform the nation that the bulk of the $63.7bn debt was incurred by APC states.

He said, “It is indeed unfortunate that the Vice President-elect, who has the details of the debt stock, chose to be economical with the truth and to mislead Nigerians just to discredit the current PDP- led administration and rationalise APC’s unpreparedness for governance.

“Prof. Osinbajo is aware that the $63.7bn is made up of external and domestic debts belonging not only to the Federal Government but to federal and state governments and accumulating since the 1960s.

Yet, he deliberately misrepresented the facts to give the unsuspecting public the impression that the amount was exclusively incurred by the current Federal Government. “Perhaps the Vice President-elect avoided the details so as not to expose the fact that the APC- controlled Lagos State has the highest external debt stock of $1,169bn as well as the highest domestic debt stock of N278.86bn.”

The PDP further stated that it found it unacceptable and unstatesmanlike for the Vice President-elect to attempt to mislead Nigerians into believing that the total federal debt component was accumulated under the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration.

It said it was on record that a greater chunk of the amount was inherited.

Pic: Masturbating men ‘will find their hands pregnant in the afterlife’- Muslim televangelist

A Muslim televangelist, Mücahid Cihad Han has set Turkish social media aflame by claiming that a man would meet his masturbating hand 'pregnant in the afterlife' and is 'asking for its rights.

Lol Self-styled televangelist Mücahid Cihad Han dived into some delicate matters on May 24 when he answered his viewers’ questions on private television station 2000 TV, Turkish media has reported.

Han initially looked puzzled when a viewer said he 'kept masturbating, although he was married, and even during the Umrah,” a pilgrimage to Mecca performed by Muslims which can be undertaken at any time of the year, in contrast to the Hajj.

After repeating the question a few times, Han claimed that Islam strictly prohibits masturbation as a “haram” (forbidden) act. “Moreover, one hadith states that those who have sexual intercourse with their hands will find their hands pregnant in the afterlife, complaining against them to God over its rights,” he said, referring to what he claimed to be a saying of Prophet Muhammad.

“If our viewer was single, I could recommend he marry, but what can I say now?” the televangelist added, advising the viewer to “resist Satan’s temptations.” Is masturbation forbidden in Islam? “Istimna,” the Arabic term for masturbation that Han also referred to, is a controversial issue in Islam, as there have been varying opinions on its permissibility throughout history.

The Quran has no clear reference to masturbation and the authenticity of many hadiths is questionable.

Despite Han’s assertive religious stance, only a limited number of Islamic interpretations categorize masturbation as “haram,” while most of others call it a “makruh” (disliked) act.

Many of the mainstream Islamic interpretations even allow it in certain conditions, like if the act could be used to avoid the temptation of an extramarital affair.

Han, who has more than 12,000 followers on Twitter, was mocked on Turkish social media on May 25, after newspapers published his latest television “fatwa.” “Are there any hand-gynaecologists in the afterlife? Is abortion allowed there?” one Twitter user asked, while mentioning Han’s Twitter user name. “So you think that being pregnant is a God-given punishment?” another user asked.
