Kaduna provides 77 patrol vehicles , 50 motorcycles to Police

Kaduna State Government has procured 77 Hilux vehicles to assist the police in maintaining law and order in the state.

Governor Nasiru El-Rufa’i, who disclosed this during a working visit to the Police Command Head quarters in Kaduna, also pledged to provide 50 motorcycles to the command.

The governor said the gesture was in appreciation of the tremendous work of the police in securing lives and property in the state.

“The police are the first line of defence and I thought it wise to come here first and thank you and to also encourage you.

“Also to know the challenges you are facing so that within the resources of the state government, we can do our best to provide you with the tools and equipment necessary for your job.

“The vehicles are already being procured as we speak and the motorcycles will follow by God’s grace,” he said. El-Rufa’i charged the police to work harder, be honest and maintain good reputation in order to earn the respect of most Nigerians who view them in bad light.

“Our job as government is to see that we provide you with the tools and the environment to work.

“I am very proud with the performance of the Nigeria Police, Kaduna State Command.

My government will support the security agencies very strongly as they are doing great job here in Kaduna.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the governor also visited the police Criminal Investigation Department where he promised to pay fines of those on remand for minor offences.

Responding, the Police Commissioner, Mr. Umar Shehu, appreciated the government’s gesture and assured him that they would continue to do their best in providing adequate security in the state.

Shehu said the visit was historic as it was the first time any serving governor had visited the command to be acquainted with its challenges.

Timaya denies rape, says US-based accuser is blackmailing him

So I have reached out to Timaya to hear his side of the story and he denies rape.

Speaking exclusively with LIB, Timaya said it was consensual sex and the girl is now black mailing him.

Timaya admitted that he hooked up with the girl (pictured above) in his Atlanta hotel, but says she agreed to the sex.

He said the girl, who he has been talking to for about a year, contacted him when she found out he was in the US for his tour and bugged him to see him.

He told her where he was and she came to see him. He said from the minute she entered the room, she started filming him.

He said after they finished having sex, the girl continued filming him and began asking him questions.

He said she asked him if he enjoyed the sex and he said yes, then she asked him if she could follow him to his show and he said no that he's working...but that she could come later and he would tell his people to let her in.

She then told him that they didn't use a condom, what if she gets pregnant?

Timaya said he told her that he didn't want another baby, that he just got a baby.

Timaya said she continued asking him questions until he became very suspicious and dragged her phone from her.

That was when he realized that the girl had been filming him the whole time.

He said he deleted the photos/video recordings and asked her what her intentions/plans were? He gave her back her phone and then realized that for I phones, you have to delete twice before it will be completely wiped off.

He then asked her for the phone and she refused to give it to him so he called hotel security.

The hotel security came to the room and asked the lady why she was filming Timaya and she said it was nothing serious, just for fun.

Timaya asked the hotel security to remove the girl from his room but only after the lady has deleted the video recordings.

The hotel security advised Timaya to let the girl go, that if she calls the police and tells them he's holding her hostage, it's a crime in the US.

That was how he let her go. Timaya said at no point did she tell security that she had been raped when he called security on her.

And after she left, she began calling to threaten him, saying she would mess him up and ruin his career for taking things far and calling security on her.

He said she called him again demanding for money to take herself to the hospital.

He said he left money by the reception for her and she came to collect it.

Then she called again to harass him. When she continued harassing and threatening him, he began begging her because she'd already called someone in Nigeria that he was close to accusing him of rape.

She told the dude that for her to keep quiet, Timaya has to pay her $50,000 or she will publish their recordings.

He said he was begging her to stop the blackmail and not because of any rape.

He said when the girl refused to stop, he changed his US number, blocked her on Whatsapp, and instagram so she could no longer reach him for bargain and that was when she created the account on instagram to carry out her threat.

Barack Obama in Kenya in 1988, 1992, 2006

President Barack Obama has visited his father's homeland a few times in the past; in 1988, 1992, 2006 before his visit yesterday.

His first visit was in 1988.

He was on a journey of self-discovery to know more about his heritage and his father, who split from his mum 2 years after he was born.

On his second trip in 1992, he traveled with Michelle, who was his fiancee at the time.

They married a few months after that visit. He wanted Michelle to meet his paternal grandmother & other extended family members.

He then visited in 2006 as a US senator. He moved around relatively freely and visited his father’s grave and his grandmother’s tin-roof house.

Two years later, he became the president of the United States of America. (he's pictured with his grandmother above).

Buhari Narrowly Escapes Mob Attack At Prayer Ground

Adebayo Adeoye, a retired deputy inspector- general of police, has lamented the poor handling of President Muhammadu Buhari’s safety by soldiers and has called on the restoration of operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) to manage the protection of the president.

The president admitted that the heavy security around him is not capable of protecting him, adding that only God can protect him from being harmed.

President Buhari disclosed this while granting audience to the Muslim community that paid him the traditional Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

READ ALSO: Amazing Photos Of Muslim Faithfuls Celebrating Sallah Amidst laughter from his guests, Buhari told the story of how he had to hold tight to his agbada and quickly rushed into his car.

He said anybody armed with a sharp knife could have caused havoc in that kind of riotous situation.

The President said, “I thank you most sincerely for fulfilling the tradition of greetings who ever occupies this place.

I thank you very much for your loyalty to the country, as represented by our institutions and to the system.”

The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was among the delegation, commended the president for giving an enabling environment for people of different faiths to live together in the country.

Osinbajo said this was in fulfilment of President Buhari’s electoral promise that no religion would be given undue advantage over others in his administration.

READ ALSO: Amazing Photos Of Muslim Faithfuls Celebrating Sallah Mr. Obinna Chukwu, the Permanent Secretary of the FCT who led the delegation urged all Nigerians to be their neighbours’ keepers and continue to work for the peace of the country.

The permanent secretary later presented a giant greeting car, a photo frame and a mat designed in the national colours as Sallah gifts to the president.

President Buhari was joined by his son, Yusuf Buhari and Senate President Bukola Saraki to offer Sallah prayers at the National Mosque Abuja.

Sule Lamido Begs His Sons For Forgiveness

Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa state, has asked his sons, Aminu and Mustapha, to forgive him for their prison experience.

He also stated that total responsibility for their ordeal is in the hands of the law.

Former Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido, being led to prison.

Vanguard reports that shortly after his return from Abuja, Lamido gave an interview to the international radio station, VOA Hausa service.

The 69-year-old ex-governor described his arrest as the beginning of restoration of confidence in political leadership in Nigeria.

He re called that he had been arrested in the past for holding opposing political views, but stressed that he would never be discouraged in politics.

Lamido noted that if the purpose of his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was to humiliate or destroy him and his family, he would not be discouraged.

READ ALSO: Photos: Lamido And Sons Rejoice After Getting Bail According to the former governor, his arrest was a political hazard that a serious politician must go through.

“In the process to improve democracy, there would be some mistakes.

I am not a perfect human being; I have my own short comings. And in my own case, I’m out spoken, which perhaps explained why people found me too offensive and irritating,” he said.

Lamido confessed that he was worried about his sons who were innocent but had to suffer simply because their father served as a governor.

There fore, he called on Aminu and Mustapha to forgive him and be patient with the situation they found them selves in.

The ex-governor stressed that he was determined to serve his people, adding that he held no grudges against anybody over his arrest.

On July 14, Lamido and his two sons were granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Judge Gabriel Kolawole granted the accused and his sons bail in the sum of N25 million bail bond each, in addition to a requirement that they submit their travel passports to the court.

US, Cuba renew ties, open embassies

Cuba and the United States formally renewed diplomatic ties Monday, as embassies reopened in their respective capitals, a powerful move to ward burying decades of enmity between the Cold War foes.

A foreign policy legacy for President Barack Obama, the historic turnaround between two bitter foes has come about at breakneck pace, in just a matter of months since the two sides agreed to bury the hatchet and work together as equals.

The shift came after Washington acknowledged that its policy of trying to affect change in tightly controlled communist Cuba through isolation and trade restrictions had failed, and that engaging Havana directly was a better way to nudge it towards democracy and prosperity.

For the first time since 1961, the Cuban flag will fly over Havana’s newly upgraded embassy in Washington, just a stone’s throw from the White House.

The standard with a white star inside a red triangle against white and blue stripes will also take its place among a row of flags from around the world adorning the State Department’s imposing marble entrance in the US capital.

In yet another historic gesture, US Secretary of State John Kerry will formally receive his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez for talks Monday, before holding a joint press conference around 1:45 pm (1745 GMT).

Earlier, Rodriguez will preside over a ceremony to mark the up grading of the Cuban interests section to a full embassy.

The rapprochement was announced on December 17, as Obama and his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro agreed to end their countries’ estrangement and put them on track towards a full normalization of ties.

After a series of negotiations in Havana and Washington, the restoration of diplomatic relations has come about just seven months later.

ISIS kidnaps Nigerian in Libya

The Islamic State has reportedly kidnapped a Nigerian in Libya.

The man’s passport and photo were posted online through the Twitter handle, -T- @TDecker75 on Friday night.

The passport posted on the Internet indicated that the man’s name is Ibrahim Adeola; his date of birth is May 24, 1979; he was born in Imo State.

Adeola’s passport was issued on January 21, 2012 and its expiration date is January 20, 2017.

He was said to have been kidnapped in Wilayat, an eastern part of Libya.

The Nigerian was reportedly abducted by the IS along with a Ghanaian, Kofi Sekyere and an Egyptian, Bekhit Ebeid.

The terrorist group is known to always kill its hostages usually by beheading them.

SUNDAY PUNCH had reported that there were strong indications that Boko Haram had forged a strong operational alliance with the ruthless IS as the two bodies released a joint video for the first time about one week ago.

It was the first video recording since Boko Haram pledged allegiance to the IS in 2014.

The video showed the picture of a suspected Nigerian soldier in a kneeling position surrounded by three terrorists with AK47 assault rifles.

Later in the video, the body of the soldier was shown without the head.

The location of the action was not specified in the latest video.

The audio message released through the militants’ vast social media channels was read by an IS spokesperson who also threatened further violence against Christian and Jewish communities.

The video carried a West African insignia of the IS which indicated that the group had set up a media wing in Nigeria.

In March, the son of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Muhammad Uwais, Ibrahim, had travelled to Syria and allegedly joined the IS.

The junior Uwais, who is in his 40s, was said to have made the trip with his two wives and four children.

Beginning in 2014, a number of people from various countries were beheaded by the IS operating in Iraq and parts of Syria.

In January 2015, a copy of an ISIL penal code surfaced describing the penalties it enforces in areas under its control, including beheadings.

Beheading videos have been frequently posted by the group to social media.

Aisha Buhari says she still cooks for her Husband

Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, said that despite her status as the wife of the Nigerian president, she still cooks her husband’s food.

She revealed this at a party she organized to mark the Eid-el-Fitri celebration at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

She said: “I’m going to leave you soon.

I want to go back home to cook for my husband because my children are here playing with you.

Nobody is at home, only my husband. So, I want to go back home to be with him and also cook dinner for him”, she said. She further stated that the Sallah party was an indication of promoting warm interaction and sharing.

She said, “On occasions like this, we celebrate with children, especially the less privileged, including those in the various internally displaced persons’ (IDPs) camp.

We love, appreciate and share with their present situation.

“The reason for this is to promote warm interaction and sharing what we have with one another.

On this note particularly, we decided to celebrate with all children from different back ground”. She advised the children to obey their parents and teachers’ instructions both at home and schools.

“The future of this great country lies in your hands.

You are to compliment the efforts of government by working very hard in school and be obedient to your parents.

Tomorrow you may become president, the president’s wife, Senator, honourable members, governors, medical doctors, teacher, journalist, engineer, nurse, lawyer and the rest of other honourable professions”, she added.

So Sad! Mother Stabs Her Son Several Times

Promise Eboye a Six-old boy could be liken a cat with nine life after he survived four gory looking stab injuries on his back that was allegedly finflicted by his biological mother on Monday July 13.

The boy who lived with his mother who is simply identified as Comfort and step-father in Kollington area of Ijaiye, Lagos, while his biological father resides in Benin, Edo State narrated how he was stabbed his mother.

The Punch reports that at about 8am on Monday, Promise’s mother, stabbed her son four times, inflicting life-threatening injuries on the boy’s body.

It was learnt that the broken bottle Comfort used pierced the boy flesh inflicting one three-inch injury and another two-inch injury on the boy’s back.

READ ALSO: UNBELIEVABLE: 21 Babies Missing From Motherless Babies Home Residents said that Promise’ mother held tight his wrist and stabbed him several times at his back while the young boy screamed for help.

They wondered what kind of offend did the boy committed to have warranted this kind of cruelty.

The boy while narrating his ordeal said that his mother normally beat him with cane at the slightest provocation and does not understand why she does that.

He added that she sometimes will beat him still he could not walk.

He described in this way,“my mother is wicked.”

The stabbed explained that he was staying with father since when he was one year old.

But his mother came to pick when he turned 5 years from his father’s house.

Promise said: “I was sweeping the day she came. I did not know her as my mother.

My father then told me that she was my mother and she had come to take me to Lagos.

“When we came to Lagos, I started to live with her and my step-father.

But she beat me all the time.” When asked what happened that led to his mother to stab, he said he tripped and fell.

He said: “When I fell, my mother asked me what pushed me and why I fell. She was angry and went to take her N30 cane.

When she was beating me too much and I was screaming, one of our neighbours came to hold her hand to take the cane away from her.

The woman said I should run away because my mother would kill me the way she was beating me.

“My mother said ‘I will kill you, I will kill you’. When she could not find anything else to beat me with, she took a broken bottle on the ground and started to stab me on the back.” Promise revealed that he was rescued by residents, who took him to a private hospital nearby.

But before the boy was taken to the hospital, it was gathered that his mother had planted another story in the boy’s head.

READ ALSO: My Twins And I Drink Garri Daily For Survival The founded of the hospital where the boy was receiving treatment,Pastor Charles Agboola, a pharmacist , explained that the two people who brought Promise in said the boy fell down and landed on a broken bottle.

However, it was a different story the boy narrated to Agboola’s wife, a nurse.

He told her that he was watching two people fight when he sustained the injury. She said: , “He told me that they pushed him and he landed on the broken bottles but when I informed my husband, he said immediately that the story could not be true.

I also noticed that the wounds were not consistent with that story. “It was shocking that the boy’s mother was not remorseful in any way.

It was when she dashed out of the door under the pretence that she was going to look for money for the boy’s treatment, that a crowd from their street, who were coming to the hospital ,grabbed her and told the true story of what happened. “When we asked Promise why he lied, he said his mother had told him what to say when asked how he sustained the injury.”

Agboola stressed further that by the time the boy was about to leave the clinic, he was crying. “He said he did not want to go back home.

We fed him, gave him any kind of food he wanted because I could not leave the boy to suffer even though nobody paid us any money for his treatment.

We even prayed for him. Anytime we brought up the issue of who would take over his care when he was released from our hospital, he became very sad,” he said.

Neighbours said Comfort sometimes punished the boy by smashing his head against a wall when ever he did something wrong.

She was later handed over to the police at Ijaiye- Ojokoro Division. Comfort, who is nursing a toddler, told the police that Promise stepped on her baby, which was why she became angry.

When Promise’s biological father was later contacted, he initially said he wanted nothing to do with the issue. “I have other children – I have produced boys and girls.

Whatever she likes, she should do with her son.

When she likes, she would take the boy to a motor park and send him to me through a driver,” the man said. Confirming the incident, the police spokesman, Kenneth Nwosu, said Comfort would be arraigned as soon as possible.

Syrian army ambushes 40 rebels in Lebanese borders

As many as 40 rebels were killed Saturday in a Syrian military ambush at a contested city near the Lebanese borders, the state news agency SANA reported.

The Syrian army and the Lebanese Hezbollah fighters ambushed the militants, who were attempting to sneak into the city of Zabadani from its slops, the report said.

Meanwhile, the Syrian army and its allied Hezbollah fighters continued their offensive to recapture Zabadani, northwest of the capital Damascus and near the Lebanese borders, managing to storm the city from its southern part and advance toward its center.

The government forces’ battle aims at clearing the city and the entire region of Qalamoun of the Nusra Front and its allied militants, who used the city as a conduit to smuggle militants and weapons from Lebanon into the western countryside of Damascus.

Winning the battle by the Syrian forces and Hezbollah would shield the Lebanese borders of the threat of the Nusra Front, amid reports that most of the blasts that targeted Lebanon recently were planned by the rebels in Syria and the cars were booby-trapped in Qalamoun.

Nigerian airlines decry high operating cost

Airline Operators Association of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to review the charge s paid by its members in order to reduce their high cost of operation.

General Secretary of the association, Mr Mohammed Joji, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that high operating cost was a challenge facing the aviation industry in Nigeria.

Joji stated that airline operators in the country were burdened with multiple charges, which included five per cent ticket sale charge, landing and parking charge as well as passenger service charge and en-route navigational charge.

According to him, aside the charges mentioned, airlines are also subjected to paying Value Added Tax to the Federal Inland Revenue Service, which he described as abnormal.

He added, “The issue of multiple charges is a major challenge facing local airline operators, because the charges are so numerous and have significantly affected airlines’ operations.

“For instance, we pay five per cent charge for passenger’s ticket, which is a compulsory payment for every operator.

“For the operators to survive in the business, there is the need for the government to harmonise some of these charges in the over all interest of the sector.

“The charges are not good for the industry as a whole, and we urge the government to find ways of addressing this issue which has become a major challenge to us.”

Joji identified another challenge of the industry as the high cost of aviation fuel (JET-A1), which is currently being sold at between N160 and N170 per litre.

He added that the aviation fuel, whose price was usually cheaper than the prices of petrol and diesel, was hither to sold at N40 per litre.

According to him, the marketers have taken advantage of the deregulation of the downstream sector to reap additional proceeds, describing this as illegal and immoral.

DSS Detains Ex-NSA Sambo Dasuki

Former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki was detained on July 16, Thursday by Department of State Services (DSS) personnel.

As Naij.com reports earlier DSS operatives in four Hilux vans, ruled by Mohammed, stormed Dasuko’s private residence in Abuja at about 6:40pm and laid siege on in, insisting on seeing Dasuki.

It was also learnt that something similar occurred in Sokoto, in the home belonged to ex- NSA’s father, Ibrahim Dasuki, a former Sultan of Sokoto, where some other SSS personnel also stormed the home seemingly in search of the retired colonel.

READ ALSO: Dasuki’s Houses Under Siege The soldiers reportedly have searched the re sidence, comprising a bid container that had been in the residence for many years.

They have shut down all occupants of the house and would not permit anyone in or out of the premises.

The siege of the one-time NSA’s home may not be separate from the media reports of an intended investigation of the defence budget and other supposed abuses of office by the immediate-past service chiefs who were fired this week.

The DSS operatives later in the night whisked away the former NSA to one of their facilities in Abuja for interrogation.

Later in the night security operatives took away Dasuki for questioning.

A security source confirmed the detention of ex- NSA, but the reason of the arrest is yet to be given.

One source close to Col Dasuki said:

“The ex- national security adviser was shocked that he was not contacted or invited for interaction on any issue.

Dasuki is suspecting that there is a motive to make him to spend the Sallah break in detention.

Lagos gov, Speaker sue for peace during Eid- el-Fitr

The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, have called on residents of the state to embrace peace and religious tolerance during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

They urged Muslims in the state not to forget the tenets of forgiveness and brother hood which characterised the period of the holy month.

They said these on Thursday in their separate messages to mark the celebration.

Ambode, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, said the nation needed peaceful co-existence among citizens to overcome the problem of insecurity.

While condemning the wave of violence being perpetrated by members of the Boko Haram sect, he called on Nigerians to return to the value of brotherly love.

He said, “As we celebrate this auspicious occasion, let us renew our faith in our nation and implore the Almighty Allah to restore to us those values that place high premium on human lives, love of neighbours and sharing, even as we ventilate our faith in the unity of our dear country and the possibility of taking its proper place in the comity of nations.”

The governor, who said the spirit of Eid-el-Fitr resonated around the virtues of love and respect, not just for our creator, but also for fellow humans, also called for unity among the different tribes and religions in the state.

“In this all important crusade to rescue our dear country from socio-economic, as well as political quagmire, let us all continue to demonstrate those sterling virtues of harmonious and peaceful co- existence as well as the willingness to serve in this melting pot of cultures where the multi-ethnic and multi-religious nature of our state is turned into a source of strength,” he added.

Obasa, in his message, said Nigerians should continue to display the spirit of love and peace, which were the major virtues they displayed during the Ramadan period.

He also called for support for the government in the war against insurgency in the country.

He said, “We must continue to display the virtues we enjoy during the fasting period, hence there is need for us to continue to share love and promote peace.

Ramadan has come and gone, but our good deeds must not be neglected or forgotten.

“Government at all levels is trying its best to ensure that insurgency is curtailed.

On our part, what is required of us is to come together, share love with one another and promote lasting peace irrespective of our religious affiliation; our main goal should be to put a stop to insurgency.”

The Lagos speaker said Nigerians should remain vigilant at all times while keeping close watch on the ativities of their children.

Obasa said, “The insurgent group has devised a new strategy of using innocent children to plant bombs and explosives at their target areas, hence the onus lies on us to remain vigilant, monitor our children and educate them not to take any parcel or box from any stranger even if they are offered money.”

Group donates foodstuffs to Osun workers

The CITA Foundation has donated 600 bags of rice and 100 bags of beans to local government workers and some pensioners in Osun State.

The gesture, according to the group, was aimed at alleviating the suffering of the workers due to the non-payment of their salaries for months.

The distribution of the foodstuffs to the beneficiaries which was carried out at the residence of the founder of the foundation, Thomas Ogungbangbe, was the response of the group to the appeal made by the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Osun State chapter, Mr. Jacob Adekomi, to public-spirited Nigerians and Non-Governmental Organisations to assist the workers in the state.

Ogungbangbe said the gesture was devoid of politics because the group just decided to assist the workers and pensioners who were going through hardship as a result of the salary issue.

He stated that the gesture would give them respite from hunger.

He said, “In response to the need of our people in this daunting global economic situation, Nigeria and Osun are not in isolation and this has further trickled down to local sectors.”

The Executive Secretary of CITA, Mr. Ola Azeez, stated that the initial plan of the foundation was to use the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees for the distribution of the foodstuffs but he said the gesture was misconstrued.

The Deputy President of NULGE in the state, Kehinde Ogungbamigbe, expressed appreciation to the foundation for coming to assist local government workers in their time of hardship.

17yr old Nigerian schooling in UK drowns in Canada while on school trip

A 17 year old Nigerian boy, Jamal Ottun, a student of Wallington County Grammar School in South London drowned while swimming with his school mates at the Shawnigan lake on Van couver Island, Canada on Sunday July 12th.

According to reports, the talented sportsman was in Canada with his school's Rug by team for a Rugby tour when the sad incident happened.

He had gone swimming with his team mates when he drowned.

Efforts to revive him after wards failed. He was his father's only son.

After the cut is a statement released by the school on his death...

Jamal with his family. His mum is demanding full investigation into his death...

Photo of Jamal with his friends some days before he drowned

It is with great sadness that we now confirm that during a scheduled swimming trip on Sunday 12 th July 2015 , whilst on the School rugby tour to Canada, Jamal Ottun, a n extremely popular and talented Year 12 student, required support from the emergency services.

Despite their response, and the con siderable efforts of the S chool’s own staff and students, Jamal could not be saved and sadly passed away at the scene. Jamal was an exemplary Walcountian.

During his time with us he developed a true love for Walling to County Grammar School and this was reciprocated by those who knew him too.

He was a very generous individual, always looking for the best in people and wanting to help them achieve great things.

Jamal would have continued to be a fantastic role model for others in the School and beyond, and would have un doubtedly become a great leader as House Captain of Carew as part of the School’s House System.

Jamal was a very keen sportsman, be it on the rugby pitch, the running track or excelling in virtually any other sporting activity.

The short time that he did spend on this trip was characterised by tremendous fun as demonstrated by the photographs that he had already shared with family and friends.

Jamal’s family are obviously devastated by these events, and our thoughts and prayers are with them all at this time.

We will continue to work closely with the family and are ensuring that no effort is spared in supporting them.

Our thoughts are also with the staff and students who were with Jamal, and who are having to cope with this tragedy .

The tour has now been curtailed and the studen ts and staff will be returning to the UK shortly.

This tragic event has left a huge hole in the WCGS community, and this is keenly felt by all staff, students and others who have com e into contact with Jamal.

The School is offering professional internal an d external support to all students and staff, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future .

Our tremendous thanks go out to our hosts, Shawnigan Lake School, for the support that they have offered us, and also to the authorities in British Columb ia who are also working closely with us.

I am sure that you will want to join with us in remembering an extraordinary young man.

The S chool has created an area for remembrance at the front of School.

This area will be available to access by any one within t he WCGS community .

NLC directs Osun worker to resume strike

Barely 24 hours after the suspension of a seven- week strike by labour unions in Osun State over unpaid salaries, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, Mr. Jacob Adekomi, has directed workers to resume the suspended strike on Wednesday.

Adekomi said this in a programme monitored on a radio station, Ray Power FM in Osogbo on Tuesday night by our correspondent.

Although efforts to confirm from the NLC chairman were unsuccessful as calls put across to his telephone did not connect, the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in the state, Mr. Mohammed Abdulahi, confirmed the resumption of the strike in a telephone inter view with our correspondent.

Abdullahi stated that the NLC chairman had directed workers to resume the strike.

He said, “The state government has reneged on the earlier MoU signed with labour that it would pay us two months.

They just paid some half of a month salary while some have not even received any.

“This is a violation of the agreement and we are calling on all teachers and other workers to remain at home until further directive is given by the labour.”

The NLC chairman had earlier said workers in the state had rejected the payment of 50 per cent of January salaries by the state government.

He said all affiliate unions of the NLC would meet decide on the next line of action. Adekomi said, ” We are rejecting the payment of half salaries because that was not what we agreed on.

All affiliate unions of the labour will meet later today ( Tuesday) to deliberate on the issue.

But those that have not been paid at all can remain at home.” Also, some local government workers told our correspondent around 2pm on Tuesday that they had yet to receive an alert from their banks.

But the All Progressives Congress in the state has appealed to workers to show understanding with the government, saying the balance of their salaries would be paid very soon.
